A couple weeks ago we got a pretty geed dose of ice/snow. I’ve only been out a couple of times because it’s been so treacherous. After riding with a couple of guys that had studded tires x thought I’d look into some.
Well, since they’re $90 ea. I decided to try to make my own. I had an old Nevegal around and picked up a cheap Crossmark. A couple hours and hundred or so #6 x 1/2″ screws later I have studs.
They were inserted every 3 or 4 lugs in two rows. On the inside I put two rolls of duct tape, then wrapped my tube in an old tube split in half. A fellow mtbr suggested that if that doesn’t work, or I have too many tear outs that I should try to plasti-dip the inside.
Of course, today we got seven inches of powder, so it will be a bit before I can try them.
